Would You Take A Ratio quiz?

I have learnt that ":" in a ratio separates the value and instead of using ":" you can add "to" or just put write a ratio as a fraction. My score reflects my understanding of ratios.

The Body

One day, Derek stayed home while his dad went to work. He fried himself two eggs and bacon and ate while watching cartoons.  After a while, he phone rang.  It was Derek’s dad, “Derek, I am almost home.  Are you ok?” Derek answered,
“Yes I’m fine.
Ok see you soon dad”.  Two minutes later, he heard a car horn beeping in the driveway.

When Derek opened the door, he was shocked to find his father lying face down in the middle of the road, covered in blood.  Derek ran towards his father’s body but while he was running, from out of nowhere, someone quickly grabbed the body and threw it inside a dark blue van with flames painted on its side.

Derek was angry and upset, so he damaged everything in the house. From that on wards he vowed he to find out where his dad was taken.
How ever after two months Derek found himself out of options and gave up the search. He had tried every possible lead and idea that he’s come across but he still coulddn’t find his dad.

One fateful day, while walking to a cafe to have breakfast, something familiar caught Derek’s eye.  It was the same van that his father’s body.  Derek ran towards the van as fast as he could until he saw four men standing beside the van.  He immediately had the feeling that something terrible was going to happen to him so he stopped and walked away.  While he was walking away, Derek turned his head to look one more time at the van and saw the men walking towards him.  He ran back home and never saw the mean again that day.

Two days later, Derek heard a knock on the door. When he opened it, he couldn’t see anyone nobody there, so he walked out to check too see if there was a car but he couldn’t see anything in sight. He returned to his house, and while Derek walked past the hallway “Bam, bam!” Two shots were fired at him!
Derek lay dead on the ground with two bullets in his head.

The Missing Teen

One day Liz went to visit her mum at the cemetery.  While she was praying, she saw a message on her mother’s headstone.  It said ‘Tomorrow I will meet you at Plap Rd near the alleyway and if you do not come, you will be in danger’ Liz got scared and ran home.  The message was stuck in her head, “Dad! Dad! I saw a written message on mum’s headstone, come I will show you” she cried.

When they got there, the written message was gone. “Liz where is it, are you lying to me?” her Dad said.  Liz said
But I swear I saw it” with a tear dropping down her face “Let’s go back home now.  I cannot believe you dragged me all the way here to look at nothing!” he said furiously.
The next day, Liz approached her father, “Dad.... I am going to hang out with my friends, I will come back before 3:00pm, see you”. But she lied; she was going to the alleyway.  As she waited near the alleyway, she heard “Hey you, come closer” a croaky voice whispered. “Who are you”? Liz asked. There was no answer and Liz feared that something bad might happen to her. As she moved closer towards the direction of the voice, Liz saw a little hidden room and she entered it.  She would never come back out ever again.
Liz’s father became worried when his daughter didn’t return home that evening, so he called the police.  The police officer asked “What is your name Sir”?, Liz’s father replied, “My name is Lannel, please find my daughter.  She hasn’t returned after saying she would go to hang out with some of her friends.  It’s night-time now and I’m worried”.  The policeman thanked Lannel and said they would try their best to find Liz.  All Lannel could do now was wait and hope.
It is September 19, 1996 – ten years after Liz’s disappearance.  A police officer knocks on the door.   “Hey, Lannel” said the police officer. Lannel answered with a face wrinkled by years of worrying, “Hello officer, have you found my daughter?” The police officer said “I am afraid not, I am very sorry but we are still trying our best to find her. I’m just checking in on how you’re doing”. Lannel cried. He died not long after this, not ever knowing what happened to Liz. Til this day, the story of Liz can still be heard. There’s also been rumors of sightings of Liz walking around the cemetery around 3:00.

Labour Day

On Labour day my aunty took my cousins, sister and I for a walk down to the beach. I was pushing my sister in the pram and everybody walked beside us. We left at 10:00am and got there at 10:30am. When we got there, my cousin Cecilia and I laid down on the sand while my younger cousin Cadence and my sister built a castle next to us. Then they left to go play on the playground.

I saw my cousin pick up some sand and threw it under my pants so while she wasn’t looking, I put some sand in her underwear. I started to laugh and she was shocked but then she started laughing with me. My aunty said “Let’s go now, because we have to go and buy lunch”, when we were about to go and see what my cousin and sister were up to.

We went to the fish and chips shop for lunch. When we got there it was closed so we crossed the road to go to the bakery. I bought a mince and cheese pie, my cousins bought bacon  and egg pie and my sister got a sausage roll. My aunty bought 4 sugar donuts for us to eat. She bought a Mountain dew and Pepsi at Supervalue.

We walked back home to have our lunch. It was a tiring and sunny day. When we got home my cousin and I set the table outside, we got 4 plates and 4 glasses. I put some mountain dew into the glasses and served the food on their plates. My mum and dad said “We have to go now because we have to go and buy you and Nathan’s summer shoes”. It was a beautiful day, I got to hang out with my cousins, sister and aunty.

Food Technicraft

On Thursday Room 7 and 8 headed to the bus to go to Pakuranga Intermediate. I am always comfortable sitting at the front with Agnes. We both wondered what was going to happen, at food tech.

We all lined up and our teacher told us to walk inside. We got to choose a partner, I was partnered up with Agnes. “Hello, my name is Miss Plows”, she said. We went over some safety rules and she showed us where the kitchen equipments were. The bell rang for Morning Tea.

After morning tea we went back to class. Miss Plows gave us each a copy of the recipe. “We are making toasted canopy”, Miss Plows said. Agnes and I were very excited, we got out our equipment and put it on the bench.

Agnes grated the cheese, onion, and chopped up the ham into tiny small pieces. While she was grating I was cutting the crust off the bread and placing them on the muffin tray. Agnes put the ingredients on top of the  bread.

We put the tray in the oven, during that time Agnes was cleaning the table and I was washing the dishes. I checked the oven and it was ready we bought it out and placed it on the bench. I really enjoyed baking and it was delicious.

Another Cast

On Friday my nana and I woke up at 7:00, we both had a shower and got ready to go to my nana’s appointment. We stayed for a while with my mum because my baby brother just woke up. “Lets go now Dehnyse”, my nana said, so off we went.

First, we stopped at my cousin’s house to pick up my aunty because she was using my nana’s car to go to school. Before she went to school, she dropped my nana and I off to Greenlane hospital. My nana and I went to reception and she gave them a letter for her appointment to get her leg x-rayed.

The lady told us to go to Radiology and give her the note that she gave us. We waited for 5 minutes then my nana was called to go and see the doctors, to get her leg x-rayed. “It is ok but you still have to have another cast for 4 weeks“, the doctor assured her.

Afterwards my nana got a pink bright cast and we went off to have breakfast at Coffee to go. After we had breakfast, we both had to wait outside for two hours. I got bored so I bought a cookie. When I walked outside, I saw my aunty so my nana and I went inside the car. I was happy that I spent my day with my Nana.

White Sunday

White Sunday is a special Sunday to prepare children to talk about bible stories, poem, short statements or plays. We would wear white dresses or Puletasi and Pale - Head Lei.

We began our entrance by lining outside the church while family members were seated inside. It was freezing outside, but the excitement was too overwhelming because it was the first time I’ve participated such a special occasion.

When it was time to perform, the feeling of nervousness kicked in. My sister’s age group was first to perform and each student did really well by saying their short statement.

In my class we all had a part in a play, my part is
“Faafetai Iesu i lou alofa mai, faafetai ua ou malolo” Ona ou faapea atu lea.

After I said my part, I closed my eyes and said a ‘Thank you’ prayer to God for giving me the courage to speak up in front of people.
It was almost time to go. My family was proud of my sister and I.

A Fun Night At My Cousins House

On Saturday my family and I went to my brother’s game, afterwards we went to my cousin’s house. We were meant to have a barbeque but it started to rain and we took the food inside the house to cook.

My aunty asked my cousin “Are you able to make your caramel muffins for me to take to my friends house”.
“Yes” replied my cousin. She got out the ingredients and started making it. I helped her by buttering the muffin tray.  When she was finished she put the ingredients in the muffin tray and put it under the oven.

When my aunty left, my cousins, sister and I were getting ready to go for a shower. Later on my uncle set up a movie for us to watch. It was exciting because we watched Despicable Me 2. My favourite part of the movie was when Doctor Nefario was quitting his job, he was flying out slow because the engine in the motor drives slow.

I had so much fun on Saturday and I hope that it happens again because I really enjoyed spending time with my cousins.

Rainbow's End

Last weekend my cousins, sister, aunty and I went to Rainbow’s End in Manukau because it was my cousin Juno’s birthday. We got ready and waited for my dad to come back so we could go.

“Come on guys let’s go now” said my aunty. I put my sister in her car seat, my cousin hopped in the car, I shut the door tight and my aunty drove away. Few minutes later we were at Rainbow’s End. We were searching for a parking and one of the staff members showed us where to park.

One of my cousins and my sister were excited but my other cousin and I were not that excited as they were. We walked in and my cousin and I made a plan that I take her sister and she takes mine.

The first activity was the Merry-Go-Round, then we went to the magic bikes and we were the colour purple. We had to paddle to go up but if we stopped paddling and we would go down. After that we went to the rollercoaster, “How old are you?” said the lady “Seven” replied my cousin “Okay do you want to be on your own or do you want your supervisor” “Supervisor” she replied “Okay but next time you have to come on by yourself”.

We went on and my cousin said “I just wanted you to come with me so you could enjoy the fun”
“Thanks” I replied. It went really fast and my cousin and I put up our hands up. When the ride was finished we were sent to go and sit down and wait for the birthday girl Juno. While we were singing Happy Birthday she blocked her ears because she hated the song.

Time went by and I was full of excitement because my cousin and I were trying to look for her sister and my sister. I found my sister at the car stop and my cousin found her sister near the slides. My aunty said “Lets get ready to go home now, go and say happy birthday to Juno, say bye and say thank you for inviting us” We said our goodbyes and we went to the car. My cousin and I ended up having a really fun day.

What Do You Know About Television?

Television is a piece of equipment with a screen that receives and shows moving pictures with sound. It was first invented in 1920 and was invented by a man named John Logie Baird.

The early televisions were characterized by their tiny screens. Early television pictures were black and white, whereas modern televisions nowadays  are in all sorts of different colors. Electronic television system was developed later on and proved to work better than mechanical systems so it was replaced. In the late 1800's, Paul Gottlieb Nipkow,  a student in Germany, developed the first ever mechanical module of television. Some televisions work from the same basic principle. The tiny dots of light produced on television screens are called pixels. A television produces a series of tiny dots on a screen that as a whole it appears as an image. People can control the television with a remote.

Today television is very entertaining and has a lot of different channels that you can discover.

Happy Birthday To......

On Friday morning my aunty picked me up from my grandpa’s house to go to the movies for my cousin’s 13th birthday. I was so excited, that I always rang my cousin to check when they are coming.

I was still asleep when I heard a knock at the door. ‘Knock, knock, knock’ I got up and ran to the door, opened it and said “Finally you are here”. Then I got my shoes, put them on, said goodbye to my grandpa and sister, and got in the car.

When we drove off to Sylvia Park, we walked in and saw a long line. We were at the counter, and my aunty bought four tickets to watch The Croods, we didn’t buy any popcorn, because my aunty bought chips, drinks (G-Force) and chocolate, from Pak n Save. We went straight to the Cinemas and sat down.

There was the big screen just ads showing up, then there was the beginning of The Croods. There is six people in that family.

First, Grug the dad- He hates his wifes mom, because she says stuff about him by saying, “Look at you, you are huge”. second, Ep the oldest sister- she doesn’t want to live in the cave, and her dad always disagree with her. third, Guy- His family died in tar, when he was young and is very smart. Fifth, Sandy the youngest member of the family- she is really good at hunting. Sixth, Belt- Belt is Guy’s pet sloth, he keeps Guy’s pants up. Seventh, Thunk - He thinks that he has no brain. Eighth Ugga the mother- she understands why Ep doesn’t want to live in the cave and she tries to cheer up Grug because he doesn’t want Ep to be near guy. Ninth Grand- Not very much known of.

We had so much fun that the movie was finished, my favourite part was when Thunk said “Roll over Douglas” and when he did, he fell down where

We stopped by Burger King, went inside and ordered. I got B.K chicken meal and the same as my aunty and cousin, but my young cousin got double cheese burger. I was the most fun day I had with my aunty and my cousins.

Have A Safe Trip

On Sunday, my family and I went to my nana’s house to say goodbye to my grandma and my aunty, because they are flying back to Australia. While I was sitting on the chair my cousins, aunty and uncle knocked on the door.

My aunty said to my cousin and I “Go to the back and set up the table so nana and grandma can eat”. While they were eating I was washing the dishes and my cousin was drying them and putting them in the cupboards. It was 2pm and it is nearly time for my grandma and aunty to go to the airport, so my cousins, aunty and uncle got ready to go home as well.

As they were leaving my aunt ( the one that is flying back off to Australia) kindly gave my two cousins, my brother, sister and twenty dollars for our lunch. During that time, my grandma and aunty were packing up and putting their bags inside the car. Few minutes later they were getting ready to go.

I was not ready to say goodbye to them because I did not want them to leave, but they have to be at the airport so I hugged them and said “Good bye and have a safe trip”. They left and got ready to go to to buy.

I really do miss my grandma and aunty because they only visited for four days.

Power......

“Good morning class”
“Good morning Mr Clark”

Today Room 7 and 8 had Technicraft. Year 7’s walked into Mr Clark's classroom and he welcomed us in. We all grabbed a seat and sat down. Mr Clark was talking about what we had done last week.

We started our day off with a, with a little game of handball. We played by ourselves, then we got into partners. Asia and I were partners  and we played until the bell rang, we won against the other team. Then we went and had morning tea. I had two oreos and a packet of teddy bears.

When the bell rang, I ran back to class and waited until Mr Clark came to open the door. When all of the students went in, we were all told to gather around in a semicircle at the front. Few minutes later, we went to our tables and started to make an electricity circuit with one battery, a light bulb and a holder to hold the light bulb.

Agnes and I were partners. We were trying to find the black and red wire so we can connect it to the battery and the magnet to switch the light bulb on. Agnes told Mr Clark when we completed that.

He told us to do the series. It sounded hard to Agnes and I, so we just added another light bulb. We showed Mr Clark then he told us to go on the parallel. We were struggling fix it, we used 6 light and it still didn’t work it didn’t work so we just fixed the wire and changed the battery. “Five more minutes everybody”, Mr Clark said.  In my head I was thinking that we were in My Kitchen Rules.

“T-i-m-e-’-s u-p step away from the table, come and gather around here, Mr Clark said.
“Great job everybody” .
“I think today 6 light bulbs is the highest, congratulations Agnes and Dehnyse you won”.
Today was an amazing day and I had so much fun exploring electronics.

My brother's amazing Rugby game

On Saturday my family and I went to watch my brother’s Rugby game. We came late so my brother only played the second half. We went to the field and we were lucky that the grass wasn't that muddy.

My mum, dad, sister, and I saw my brother warming up and kicking the rugby ball to his friend. The whistle blew and the game started, SHC had the ball first and they were running and passing the ball around.

During the game my sister said to my dad “I’m hungry”.
“We don’t have mum’s bag, it is inside the car”, I said to her. Then she started to cry so my dad went to get my mom's bag from the car to keep her quiet. When my dad came back, he took my sister and went off to buy some sprite and sausage with bread.

My brother came in at half time ready to play the rest of the game because he was so focused, he was ready to play the game, he was focused. The whistle blew and the other team has the this time. My brother bumped off the player from the other team from the other team.

My brother set up two tries and fantastically scored a try for himself. When he scored he posed on the field, then the whistle blew and the game was over. SHC won but the other team did their best. My family and I were very proud of my brother. I can’t wait until my brother has another game on Saturday.

My Fantastic Holiday

The Holidays

During the holidays I met my cousins, Cecilia and Cadence at my aunty and nana’s house. We practised netball with my cousin before she has her big game. We all went to my aunty’s and uncle’s house, where my uncle had a B.B.Q for the new member of our family while we practice netball outside.

While we were practising, my cousins’ family came to meet the new member of our family. There were some relatives that I haven’t met before, there were twins and a boy whom I was unfamiliar with. So we stopped practising and we played with them. We started off by passing the ball in a circle.

Then we played hacky round (it is a game where you hit the ball with your knee or any part of your body to get a point in order to get the highest score). We grew to like it so we carried on playing. Then I started searching for this fantastic smell of sausages, chicken, steak and chops, because I felt hungry.

The more we played, the hungrier we got, then the little kids got their plastic plates out and lined up. We kept on playing until someone called, “Guys, get yourself a plate”. So my cousin went inside and got us three plates. I got myself one sausage and a steak.

After that we played tiggy until it got dark as we were playing tiggy. Once we finished our game, we lined up to get our towels and had a shower. I had so much fun spending time with my family.

Saturday Weekend

During the weekends my dad, aunty and my cousins went to church. I stayed home because my mum was going to Kmart to buy something. My mum said “Get ready, after I shower we are going to go.” When my mum finished showering, I put my little sister inside her car seat and then we drove off.

Few minutes later we were at Kmart. My mum was searching for a car park, I got my little sister out and I put her inside the trolley. My mum was searching for a brush for my little cousins Dehnyse and Shakina.

We were searching for socks until something caught my eye ‘A bike’. It had paddles, two sticks which you control  for the back wheels and the seat was very low, it was green. I heard my mum calling my name I went to her, she was still searching for socks so I said “There, is it these socks?”
“Perfect”, my mum replied.

When we finished shopping, I asked my mum “Can I scan the shopping please?” so I did. Then we went to my nana’s house to wait for my dad, cousins, and aunty to come back from church.

Technicraft

Hey everyone come get your scrapbook that is in cupboard number 5”. Today I was so excited that I forgot my scrapbook that had my homework in it. I told Mr Nair (our technicraft teacher) that I forgot my scrapbook. Few minutes later, Mr Nair called out the roll then he gave us a mini cupboard and he gave us instructions about what we have to do with our mini cupboard that we are going to draw our characters on it. Agnes, Asia and I started drawing our characters. My character is Benson and he is on Regular Show (cartoon network.) He is the boss of the park and he has a really short temper. I drew him because he is really easy to draw. Time went really fast and it was almost time to go back to school to have lunch. It was a really fun but exhausting day today.
