Dog Ate my Homework!

It all started last Friday. There I was stepping along confidently, clutching my homework in my hand. I have to say I was pleased with it. I’d spent hour’s finishing it the night before.

Then there I was walking down the path. Then something stopped me a low growl coming underneath the car. I released my homework book on the ground and looked under the car. I saw red beady eyes looking at me. Then I saw saliva dripping on my finger. “Ewww yuck!” I said. I immediately got up and started walking away from the car. I forgot my book so I twirled and there I saw a bulldog tearing my homework apart.

I sprinted to the dog while disgusted at what he was doing. I snatched it off him. While angry I said “You rude awful dog. How dear you”. I started walking to school really frustrated.
“Good morning Mr Andrew” I said sadly
“Oh whats the sad looking face” He replied

“There was a dog that ate my homework and ‘NO’! It's not an excuse.” I said walking to my desk.

Science Class

Thermometer.pngbeaker.jpg
Last Thursday, my class and I all went to the bus to go to Pakuranga Intermediate. In term three, the year eight’s are in science (Mrs Gaweth) and the year seven’s are in cooking class (Mrs Plows). When we arrived at Pakuranga Intermediate we all hopped off the bus.

Year eights and sevens went to their classes. For science there were three groups. I was in a group with boys (Kryzjon, Carlos and John). The teacher introduced herself, she is very hilarious. She talked over some rules and then we started off with sketching how a scientist looks like. She gave us each a piece of paper so we can record what we are doing. There was container (shaped as a rectangle), water and food colouring (maximum two) on each of our tables, which was part of our experiment.

We went straight into it, by pouring the water into the container, adding the food colouring on each corner and we went around doing the same thing to each of the groups. When we got back to our table we were watching and trying to figure out what the food colouring was doing to the water. I wrote on the paper that it was changing colours.

We went off to interval and came back. We did another experiment that involved two blocks of ice, hot water, cold water, two beakers and thermometer. We got the cold water put it in the centre placed the thermometer inside the cold water and recorded the temperature that was shown on the thermometer we did the same thing to the hot water. Then we added the two blocks of ice into each of the beakers. The temperature for the hot water with ice rose up but for the cold water with ice rose down.

We saw our teacher standing outside and that was the sign that we had to go. We packed up and went to our teacher. I really enjoyed the experiments that we did. I can’t wait until next week.

Library (Explanation)

First Paragraph:
Introduction
Libraries are for people to go and study, calm down, read, etc. Kids, grandparents, parents, uncle and aunty can go to the library. You can borrow a book if you have a library card if you don’t then you won’t be able to borrow a book. When you are in the library you have to be very silent because adults or children are reading and you might disturb them. Some people works and study in the library so they won’t be disturbed by anyone. Libraries are open from Monday to Friday, but on Saturday they close early and Sunday they are only open 1-6 hours.
The next few paragraph I will be telling you about non-fiction, fiction and librarian.
Second Paragraph:
Non-fiction section
Non-fiction are based on real books. The books are arranged in numbers like 400-499. For example Josh had a science homework and he searched the number 500-599 and he found what could help him. Non-fiction are useful for you because it can help you in your homework for you can study about it.
Third Paragraph:
Fiction Section
Fictions are made-up stories. The books are arranged in letters like A-Z. People would want to read fiction books because it can entertain them or calm them down from a hard time. For example this little girl was walking and she found an interesting and entertaining book
Fourth Paragraph:
Librarian
Librarians helps you to find stuff like books, toilet, etc. We need librarians so they can help you find information for search up something for you. If there were no librarians we won’t be able to know where books are. Librarians are useful because they can help you in many ways like searching and finding.
Conclusion
This concludes my essay I have discussed the reasons what is non-fiction, fiction, and why librarians are useful. I really like visiting the library because I could read and keep calm.

Lagoon Pools!

On Sunday at 3:00 my cousin and I went to the Lagoon Pools, we were dropped of by my dad.

The reason we was went because we were bored  and the next day was school.  We went off in excitement to get changed into our swimming clothes and went straight to the shallow pool. We didn’t want to interfere with the people that were practising.

We sat around the pool and talked. Later on we swam , relaxed in the water and just floated. The thing that was too difficult to do was to run in the pool. We didn’t know what time it closed so we decided to leave the pools at 4:30. While we were waiting we played some games. I looked up at the clock,  then I told my cousin it was 4:30 and so we quickly rushed to go to the changing room before the showers were unavailable. But when we got there nobody was there and we rinsed ourselves and got changed.

My cousin went and asked the lady what time the pools closed and she replied 7:00. I was shocked because we left the pools early not knowing what time it closed.  I text my dad and mum and asked them if they could  come and pick us up.

It took, well it seemed to take a very long time for them to arrive and so my cousin and I went walked up and down the hill, listening to music and taking pictures. We were going to ask the the lady at the reception if we could use the telephone to ring my parents. It was at that exact moment that. We heard a loud beep. I turned around to see and it was my dad so we quickly ran to the car because it was raining.

When we got home we were so exhausted and one by one we went to go shower  and following that we each wandered off  to have a nap.

My Dream!!

As I looked outside I saw little white round balls hitting my window. I went back to sleep but I got very annoyed because the noise got louder. I sneaked past my brother who was sleeping on the couch and went outside. I saw a moving snowman that was striking the white round balls at me. Thirty seconds later I was all white and I was shivering.

I was slapping myself to see if I was dreaming but nope this whole drama was carrying on. Then I saw this girl that was wearing a white and blue dress and she was protecting me. All of a sudden the snowman was moving up to us. “Hurry lets go” said the girl with the dress. We ran to the road, while we running I felt like a block of ice.

The snowman was running so fast that I was out of breath. The girl pulled me behind this enormous truck, then she made stairs out of ice that led to the sky tower. We dashed upstairs and entered the elevator. While we were standing the girl next to me was singing Let it Go. The doors opened and we tried to find a good hiding spot.

Someone dragged me I started yelling “Ahhhhhh”

I was panicking someone was calling my name “Jackie” I woke up and I saw my parents who were worried about me. I was crying but at least it was over.

Marshmallow Challenge!

Screenshot 2014-09-10 at 11.43.44 AM.png

Today, my team Agnes, Giovanni, Kolio and I were all discussing about how to build a tall tower out of dried spaghetti sticks and on top of it we have to include a marshmallow that holds the spaghetti sticks together.  Agnes came up with the first idea saying that we should gather some of the spaghetti sticks and tape them together, make it stand by itself and add the marshmallow on top.

When the time started to tick (we only had 18 minutes) we quickly did Agnes’s idea, but it wasn’t able to stand so we tried to make it stand but it kept on falling we only had 5 minutes left. Agnes and Giovanni was making another sculpture while Kolio and I were trying to make it stand.

I heard Agnes say “Here, what about this one” then we all looked. (it was small) “Sure that will do because we only got 20 seconds....” I didn’t even got to finish of til we heard a loud noise “YES! WOOHOO” said Kolio then we turned around and saw that the first sculpture we made was standing by itself.

“10 seconds left” yelled out Mrs Dines. We were yelling and hi fiving each other until it fell down. It was our sound waves that affected the sculpture. “5, 4, 3, 2, 1!!!”
“Noooooooo!” we all yelled.

It was frustrating and challenging but at least we made one that stood for only 3 seconds. I’m happy that we made it through without hurting anyone.

Chocolate Challenge!

There are 30 children lining up outside ready to sit down at a table.
30 / 3 = 10
30 / 2 = 15
10 + 15 = 25 then you add another 5 to the 25 which will equal 30.
So 5 children would be at 1 table, then 10 children would be at table 2 and at table three would be 15 children.

Why Is Music Important?

Music is important! For some people who have difficulty in sharing their feelings, music is a way to express themselves.

Sometimes people have hard times in life so music calms them down. Often people can relate to the experiences that song writers include in their lyrics. For example Eminem became famous because his music provided people with this opportunity.

Music comes in many forms and can be very soothing for those who are unwell or to calm an upset baby.

Music is important because it is useful to people in life.

St Patricks Day

Patrick is the name of our Patron Saint. He came from Ireland and he believed in God. On the 17th of March our Parish Church and school celebrated St Patrick’s Day with a range of activities and  a sausage sizzle.

Our whole school went to church before we started our Saint Patrick's day activities. I was chosen to read a scripture at Mass. We sang several songs of praise while there, which gave us the opportunity to share our beautiful, strong voices. After church we went to have morning tea. A short time later, the bell rang and everybody gathered in the front of room 4 and 5.

“Good morning, school” Mrs Bullot called out.
“Good morning Mrs Bullot and teachers,” we responded.
She called out the groups, which were all Irish names. The name of our group was Leprechauns and the leaders of the group were Carlos and I.
Mrs Dines gave us name tags for each person in our group. All groups were lined up and were ready to go and enjoy activities each of the six teachers at our school had prepared.

The activity that I enjoyed the most was the one Mrs Richardson’s had prepared. Mrs Yummul gave each of us a cardboard that was and a rainbow. We glued the rainbow onto the cardboard. In front of us was a cup full of cotton wool. This was placed as a cloud at the other end of the rainbow. After we finished we waited patiently for Mrs Yummul to add the pot of gold (Which was a small navy blue cup). During each class visit, teachers awarded group points.

After every group had completed the class rotations, the whole school gathered together back in front of room 4 and 5 where we had begun our day. The points were added.  Mrs Bullot informed us that the point were very close. The winnnig team was the Donegals. Mrs Bullot called each of the team leaders and she gave us boxes of ice blocks to share out to all the students.  It was a great treat and neat way to finish.

It was an amazing day but that day wasn’t about winning it was all about fun.

Puzzle Challenge

The challenge was to create a puzzle where everyone in my class would have a text box to write in.

Laybugs

This is another explanation writing

Ladybugs are insects they can be found because of their colourful, spotted appearance. Ladybugs are also called lady beetles.

There are 5,000 different species in the world. In some countries ladybugs are goodluck. Most people likes ladybugs because they are graceful, pretty and harmless to people.
Ladybugs can eat up to 5,000 insects in its lifetime and female ladybugs can eat 75 aphids (a small bug which feed by suckig sap from plants) in one day. When a ladybugs fly, its wings beats 85 times. When a ladybug chew it jaws goes side to side not like humans it goes up and down. Female ladybugs are larger than male ladybugs.

Ladybugs is a beautiful creature. Their uniqueness makes them stand out in the insect kingdom.

Fencible Cottage

The day we went to the Fencible Cottage I saw a vacuum cleaner which took me back to the 1800’s.

This invention surprised me because the 1800’s vacuum cleaner is very different to the modern day ones. The 1800’s vacuum cleaner is operated manually whereby the user pulls the handle up and down to operate it whereas the modern vacuum is operated by pushing the vacuum cleaner forwards and backwards.

Another difference is that the 1800’s vacuum cleaner is not powered by electricity which makes this a tiring chore! However, although the modern vacuum cleaner is powered by electricity and is extra usage added to the bills, it is much easier and faster to use and control.

Plus, Minus and Interesting

LINKWe have been learning about the Fencibles who came to live in Panmure along time ago.
Many of these people were Irish Catholics.
The men who were referred to as retired soldiers, made this long journey from the other side of the world with their families and all the belongings they could bring. They came for a better life.
Recently I went to see the Fencible Stone Cottage in Panmure. It was like a little museum and as well as being made of stone, if also had lots of old things or antiques that were used in the mid and late 1800’s.
Later I made this PMI chart to record my key ideas.

Plus
What are some of the good things about the cottage?
Minus
What are some of the not good things about the cottage?
Interesting
What did I find interesting about the cottage?
Can raise a family in there 3 people would be enough.

Lots of information that is kept in there.

There are lots of pictures.
1.There is no toilet in the house.
2.There is no oven to cook any food.
3.There is no electricity in the cottage.
4.No television to watch the news
5.The space is too small
6.There are scary dolls staring at you
7.Lots of spiders and spider webs
8.The stairs and the wall are almost connected to each other.
9.No cupboards too put food supplies
The thing I found interesting was the vacuum cleaner and how three baby’s wore this same white pretty dress, which is hung on the wall.
