Science Class

Last Thursday, my class and I all went to the bus to go to Pakuranga Intermediate. In term three, the year eight’s are in science (Mrs Gaweth) and the year seven’s are in cooking class (Mrs Plows). When we arrived at Pakuranga Intermediate we all hopped off the bus.

Year eights and sevens went to their classes. For science there were three groups. I was in a group with boys (Kryzjon, Carlos and John). The teacher introduced herself, she is very hilarious. She talked over some rules and then we started off with sketching how a scientist looks like. She gave us each a piece of paper so we can record what we are doing. There was container (shaped as a rectangle), water and food colouring (maximum two) on each of our tables, which was part of our experiment.

We went straight into it, by pouring the water into the container, adding the food colouring on each corner and we went around doing the same thing to each of the groups. When we got back to our table we were watching and trying to figure out what the food colouring was doing to the water. I wrote on the paper that it was changing colours.

We went off to interval and came back. We did another experiment that involved two blocks of ice, hot water, cold water, two beakers and thermometer. We got the cold water put it in the centre placed the thermometer inside the cold water and recorded the temperature that was shown on the thermometer we did the same thing to the hot water. Then we added the two blocks of ice into each of the beakers. The temperature for the hot water with ice rose up but for the cold water with ice rose down.

We saw our teacher standing outside and that was the sign that we had to go. We packed up and went to our teacher. I really enjoyed the experiments that we did. I can’t wait until next week.
